THE INTERNATIONAL TONY-AWARD WINNING SMASH HIT!
Winner Tony Award for Best Play and Olivier Award for Best Comedy
“Wildly funny, naughtily provocative” – New York Post
“A nonstop cross-fire of crackling language…Reza is a fiendishly clever writer…ART sounds like a marriage of Moliere and Woody Allen”– Newsweek
Of all the issues that have torn apart friendships — small infidelities, big fat lies, unpaid loans and betrayed confidences — who knew that modern art would prove to be the most divisive? In her comedic masterpiece Art, provocative playwright Yasmina Reza demonstrates that the question “What is art?” can be deceptively dangerous. The play focuses on three men whose friendship is tested when one of them buys an expensive modern painting. The artwork’s unique “look” inspires vastly different reactions from each of the men, and sparks fly as they express their opinions. As the argument moves from aesthetics to something deeper, Art explores how friendships can be shaken up by the most unexpected events.
